Progressive disclosure

Notes on progressive disclosure

Users don’t want to be exposed or be forced to read everything. They want to do the least amount of work possible to get something done. Providing the user with small bits at a time and giving them the option to view more is called progressive disclosure.

Humans can handle 40,000,000 pieces of information every second but only 40 pieces make it to our conscious brains.

Its not all about clicks

Progressive disclosure requires multiple clicks, even though we hear people saying a successful site should reduce the number of clicks the user has to make.

Users won’t notice multiple clicks if they are only being exposed to small pieces of information at a time to keep them going down the right path.

Think progressive disclosure, don’t always count clicks.
