A new modal
Modal windows never used to have an impact on me until I began working with Matt Randle. Since then, my hatred for the modal has gradually grown as a result of misuse and the limitations they offer us when deciding to use them.
We have now, thanks to the inspiration of Google Chrome produced a new modal window which has been incorporated in our company’s web application. (see below)
Advantages of this modal are:
- It offers full screen real estate unlike traditional modals that occupy empty thirds top, right, bottom and left of the modal.
- Background overlay still exists and is a link back to the application.
- Vertical scrolling exists so we do not have to consider the ‘third of the browser height’ rule.
- It looks a hell of a lot better than a traditional centre of the screen modal.
